        • That’s because a lot of people think they’re going to write a bestseller by sitting in Starbucks all day. That’s a “writer cliche” and every time I see it, I roll my eyes.

Believe it or not, most people had NO idea I was a writer until I gave the eulogy at my father’s funeral in 2007. Others didn’t know until five months afterward when I gave the eulogy at my mother’s funeral, and then a year later at my parent’s unveiling. People were utterly shocked and speechless. I found it pathetic. I don’t care what people think of me or my work, but I will always command respect.

            • If you ever visit the U.S., you’ll see writer cliches’ wherever you go.

Personally, I don’t advertise myself. If someone asks what I do, I don’t always offer up the fact that I’m a writer. People don’t always respect creativity. I’m the only writer in my family. I’m also the best public speaker in my family, but that’s neither here nor there.
